All counties are assigned a single hardiness zone (HZ) designation for insurance purposes. County hardiness zone (HZ) designations are shown when you specify a county for the inventory location. These assignments apply to the insurability listings for both container and field grown plant material.

The county hardiness zone list provides a numeric designation for all counties except those in zones 9 and 10, in which cases the designation always includes an A or B and is alphanumeric. However, in some cases, the minimum and maximum hardiness zone requirements specified in the Eligible Plant List show numeric-only requirements for zones 9 and 10. Therefore, plants with a minimum or maximum hardiness zone requirement of 9 or 10 are insurable in counties with a designated hardiness zone of 9A or 9B and 10A or 10B, respectively.

Nursery Crop Insurance is not available in every county. The current list of eligible counties is available on the USDA web site at: http://www.rma.usda.gov/tools/eplpps.
