 <P>Consistent use of plant names is key to the administration of the nursery crop insurance program.  The Eligible Plant List and Plant Price Schedule use researched plant names taken from the <span style="font-style:italic; ">DataScape Guide to Commercial Nomenclature</span> and contain four forms of plant names defined as follows:</P>

  <P>The Latin, scientific, or legal form of a plant name.  Parts of the name may be genus, specific epithet (species), subspecies, variety and cultivar.</P>

 <P>Plants are sometimes sold commercially by a different name from the botanical name.  In some cases, that name is one that taxonomists consider outdated or incorrect.  In other cases, the name is one that is more often used in commercial trade.  If such conditions are present, these names appear in the commercial botanical name or the invalid botanical name field.</P>
