PM-20-048: Livestock Gross Margin for Cattle, Dairy, and Swine, Revisions for the 2021 and Succeeding Crop Years

Background

The Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Board of Directors (Board) approved revisions to the Livestock Gross Margin (LGM) plan of insurance for Cattle, Dairy, and Swine, under section 508(h) of the Federal Crop Insurance Act, on June 23, 2020. The following revisions are applicable for the 2021 and succeeding crop years:

PM-20-027: Expedited Release of Livestock Gross Margin Actual Ending Values for Swine and Dairy

Background

The Livestock Gross Margin (LGM) actual gross margins are posted by the Risk Management Agency (RMA) by the end of the first full business week of the months of February, April, June, August, October, and December. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the livestock industry, RMA is expediting the release of actual ending values to allow producers to receive payments faster.

MGR-20-010: Dumped Milk on Dairy Revenue Protection and Livestock Gross Margin for Dairy Policies

Background

Both the Dairy Revenue Production (DRP) and Livestock Gross Margin for Dairy (LGM-Dairy) programs require dairy producers to market an amount of milk that is proportionate to the amount of insurance coverage they have purchased. This milk must be sold to count towards milk being delivered to the market, or ‘marketed’.

PM-19-033: Dual Participation in Livestock Gross Margin for Dairy and Dairy Margin Coverage

Background

The Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program, administered by the Farm Service Agency (FSA), and the Livestock Gross Margin for Dairy policy (LGM-Dairy), administered by the Risk Management Agency (RMA), offer similar risk management protection for dairy producers. On December 20, 2018, the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 was signed into law, allowing producers to participate in both programs.

PM-19-023: Expansion and Modifications to Head Limits for the Livestock Gross Margin for Feeder Cattle, Dairy, and Swine plans of insurance

Background

The Federal Crop Insurance Corporation's (FCIC) Board of Directors (Board) approved revisions of the Livestock Gross Margin (LGM) for Cattle, Dairy Cattle, and Swine plans of insurance on March 27, 2019, submitted under Section 523(b) of the Federal Crop Insurance Act.

The revisions include removing the following program limitations for the 2020 crop year starting July 1, 2019:

PM-17-052: Livestock Gross Margin for Dairy and Margin Protection Program for Dairy for the 2018 crop year

Background

The Margin Protection Program for Dairy (MPP-Dairy), administered by the Farm Service Agency (FSA), and the Livestock Gross Margin for Dairy policy (LGM-Dairy), administered by the Risk Management Agency (RMA), offer similar risk management protection for dairy producers. Under the Federal Crop Insurance Act, producers are prohibited from participating in both programs at the same time.

IS-18-001: Livestock Gross Margin – User Fee Notification

FarmRisk, Inc. (FarmRisk), the developers of the Livestock Gross Margin (LGM) plan of insurance, advised the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) Board of Directors (Board) of their intent to continue maintenance of the LGM plan of insurance and charge a user fee to approved insurance providers (AIP) selling the plan. Section 522(b)(4)(C) of the Federal Crop Insurance Act (Act) allows submitters to maintain approved 508(h) products and charge a user fee to approved insurance providers (AIP) that elect to sell the policy.
